Sewing with Adam

Adam, age 7, finished his quilt top yesterday. It was an exciting afternoon. He laid out the blocks (yellow brick road pattern) on my bed and got them just the way he wanted them. When we got to the step where one seam would make the entire row, I said, "now..for a little magic".
He sewed the seam, opened up the row and said..."I love magic! Let's do another row!"
I should have written down what else he said, because it was profound...alas..I did not.
Today is Davey's turn. He's 11 and I can at least walk around while he is sewing. With Adam, I sat there..hour after hour..with my arm around and behind him so I could help guide the fabric when he got a little away from the 1/4" mark. I'll let both of them just experiment once the 4H sewing is done.
Davey wants to make an album quilt next! I told him...one thing at a time, son!

My perk for the day. Both postcards that I donated to the ACS (link at left) have sold. The first to Pat Dolan, whose work is so inspiring. The second to Karey Bresanhan for the Collection of Quilt Festival-Houston and Chicago. I was just beside myself when Virginia told me.

Well, I'd better get back to the salt mines... Davey has been waiting for his turn to finish his quilt top.
Pictures coming soon.

  1. Congrats on the boys' quilt tops, and a big happy dance for your postcards selling. The other day, I saw that Karey had purchased one of them for the IQF collection. I was doing a jig for you!! I only wish I had seen them before they sold and nabbed one for myself!
